About Maa Bhagwati Trader – Agriculture & Farming in Koraput
Our shop is located right in Ward No- 13 in the town of Umerkote. We are very close to the old Hanuman Temple, so we hear the temple bells and the morning prayers every single day. It is a good, peaceful spot to be for a business. We trade in all sorts of general goods that people need. Most of our work is just loading and unloading heavy sacks and cardboard boxes from the trucks. My brother and I run the entire place ourselves. We don’t have fancy display shelves like a mall. It is more of a warehouse feel where everything is just stacked up high. People from the nearby villages come in to buy their bulk supplies from us. We spend a lot of our time arguing with the transporters about their delivery times. They are almost never on time, which is frustrating. The dust from the main road gets into every corner of the shop, so we are constantly having to dust off the counters. We aren't trying to be some high-end supermarket. We are just a local trading post for the community. We still keep a paper ledger for the regulars who pay for their goods at the end of the month. It is a lot of physical work, lifting bags and moving crates around in the humidity. Some days it gets really hot and the ceiling fan just moves the warm air. We are just happy to keep the doors open.
