Gupteswar Seeds Private Limited has been here on the Main Road in Semiliguda for a while now. Koraput is a place where everyone knows everyone, so we just try to keep the shop running and make sure people get what they need for their fields. It gets pretty busy during the planting season. We usually start early in the morning when the fog is still over the hills. Most of the time, we are just sitting here talking to farmers who come in from the nearby villages. They tell us about their crops and the rain. Sometimes the supply is a bit slow because of the roads, but we manage. My uncle started this kind of work years ago and it just stuck. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It is just bags of seeds and some ledgers on the desk. People stop by even if they don't buy anything just to share some news. It’s a simple life in Orissa and we like it that way. We don't worry much about big city things. If the seeds are good and the farmers are happy, then the day is done. The office isn't much to look at, just some old chairs and a fan that clicks, but it works for us. We keep track of everything by hand mostly. It’s easier than messing with complicated systems.
