United Apparels World-Wide is based over at 8, Parvez Shahidi Range in the Circus Range area. It’s a neighborhood where people are always moving around and something is always happening on the street outside. Our workspace is mostly just a big room filled with sewing machines and long tables for cutting the fabric. It’s quite loud when all the machines are running at the same time in the afternoon. We’ve been doing this for a long time, so the noise doesn't really bother us much anymore. We handle all kinds of clothing, mostly just basic stuff that people need for their everyday wear. We don’t have any fancy designers or big corporate offices. It’s just us, the fabric, and the machines. Sometimes we get a big order that keeps us busy for weeks on end, and other times it’s a bit quieter and we catch up on cleaning. We try to keep things moving so everyone has work to do. The lighting in the back isn't the best, so we do most of the detailed stitching work near the windows where there is more natural light. We spend a lot of time checking the seams and making sure the zippers work like they should. It’s a lot of sitting and focused work for the team. We don't have a big fancy sign outside on the building, just our name on the door. It’s a humble place and we’re just here to do our job every day. Most of the staff live nearby, so it feels like a neighborhood spot.
