You can find us at No. 49/1/1 on Cotton Street. If you know this part of the city, you know that Cotton Street is one of the busiest places you could ever be. Tirupati Sarees is right in the middle of all that chaos. The shop is narrow, with shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling. We spend most of our time pulling down heavy bundles of sarees and unfolding them on the white sheets we keep on the floor. It’s a lot of physical work, and by the end of the day, our backs usually ache a bit. The street outside is never quiet. There are handcarts, people carrying huge bags on their heads, and constant shouting. Sometimes it’s hard to hear what a customer is saying because of the noise from the market. We don't have fancy displays or those bright spinning lights you see in the bigger malls. We just have our stock and some basic tube lights. The fans keep the air moving, but it still gets warm when the shop is full. We’ve been at this for years, so we know the local transporters and the other shopkeepers on the block. It’s a small community in a way. When the sun goes down, we fold everything back up and try to get the shop organized for the next morning. It’s just a regular life on Cotton Street.
