The Raymond Shop

We’ve been at 33 Tollygunge Circular Road for a while now. It’s inside Sital Sadan, specifically Flat No. 5. If you know this part of Kolkata, you know how busy the street gets outside our door. Most days it is just us sorting through different fabrics and making sure the racks look decent for whoever might walk in. It isn’t a fancy showroom with big glass windows that stay clean for more than five minutes. The dust from the road usually wins that battle every single day. We spend a lot of our time on our feet here. A person walks in looking for a specific shade of blue for a shirt or maybe a suit for a family function, and we just start pulling rolls down to show them. It gets a bit crowded when more than three people are inside at once, but we manage just fine. My chair in the corner is where I usually sit when things go quiet for a bit, mostly just checking the books or having some tea. People in the neighborhood know where to find us. We don’t do much advertising because honestly, word of mouth works better around here anyway. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of noise, and we keep saying we will fix it, but you know how things go. It’s just a normal workplace where we try to get the measurements right and keep people from waiting too long. It is a bit of a walk from the main crossing but people don't mind.
