Tara Maa Store

Tara Maa Store is tucked away in the Kumarkhali area of Kolkata. We are at number 1 on the street here. It’s a small shop, but we try to fit in as much as we can on the wooden racks. The ceiling is a bit low, so it feels cozy when there are a few people inside at once. Most of the time, we are just weighing out sugar or packing up small packets of tea. We have some jars of sweets near the front that the kids like. The 700002 zip code area is quite old, and our store fits right in with the neighborhood. Sometimes the light bulbs flicker a bit, but we just give them a tap. We don't have a big staff, usually just one or two of us helping out. We know which neighbors like which brand of cooking oil. It is just a routine, really. We open up the shutters early, sweep the front step, and wait for the first customer of the day. The street outside can get a bit narrow when the rickshaws go by. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, but the shop stays pretty much the same. People come in for their daily essentials and leave with a heavy bag. It’s a plain, honest place to get your groceries done in Kumarkhali. No big fuss about anything, just a local shop doing its part in Kolkata.
