If you walk down 43, Park Street, you’ll find us easily enough. Calcutta Carpets has been sitting right here in the middle of all the noise for years. Park Street is always loud, isn’t it? There is always someone looking for something or just rushing to lunch. Our shop is filled with rolls of different things, and sometimes the smell of the wool and the fabric is quite strong when you first walk in. We don't have those big bright lights like the malls do. It’s more of a quiet, dim place once you get away from the front door. We spend most of our time moving things around or answering the phone. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, to be honest. My back usually hurts by five o'clock. We don't have a big team or a fancy office. It’s just us here at 43. We know the tea seller nearby pretty well, he brings us chai twice a day. That’s usually the highlight of the afternoon. People come in looking for specific patterns, and we go through the stacks. Sometimes it takes forever to find the right one buried at the bottom. We don’t mind, it’s just part of the job. It’s a bit messy sometimes, but we know where everything is. Mostly. It’s just a regular local business trying to get through the week like everyone else. We stay busy and keep the doors open for anyone.
