Tantuja

We’ve been here at Tantuja Bhavan in Salt Lake for quite a while now. If you walk into Block-DD, you can’t really miss the building. It’s got that specific look of an office that’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. Inside, it’s mostly just us surrounded by stacks of handloom fabrics and old wooden desks. Some days it gets pretty crowded with bundles arriving from the weavers, and other days it’s just the hum of the ceiling fans keeping us company. Most of the people working here have been around for a decade or two, so we all know where every single saree or fabric bolt is hidden, even if it looks like a mess to someone walking in from the street. Salt Lake is quieter than the main city, but our corner stays busy enough. We spend a lot of time checking the threads and making sure the colors look right under the tube lights. It’s not a fancy place with glass walls or anything like that. It’s just a workspace where we get things done and talk to the people who come in looking for something specific. Sometimes the tea stall guy brings over a tray of cups, and we take a break for ten minutes before getting back to the inventory. It’s a lot of manual work, moving things around and labeling boxes by hand. We don't really do the flashy stuff you see in malls. We just stay here in Sector-1 and keep the shelves full of stock.
