State Of Fashion

You can find State Of Fashion at 12a Bosepukur Road in Kasba. It’s a small shop in a very crowded part of Kolkata. We don't have a big sign out front, just the name on the door. Inside, it’s mostly just shelves of fabric and a couple of tables where we do the measuring and cutting. We started this because we liked making clothes that fit right. It’s not a corporate office with meetings and presentations. It’s just a place where we work with our hands. The neighborhood is full of life, with the market nearby and people always walking past the window. Sometimes it gets a bit loud, but we are used to it by now. We don't have a website or a fancy catalog. If someone wants something made, they usually come in with a picture or an old garment they want us to copy. We talk about the fabric and the cost, and then we get to work. The iron is always on, and there’s usually a pile of scraps on the floor by the end of the afternoon. We try to keep things organized, but it’s hard when you have so many different projects going on at once. It’s just a regular local business. We aren't trying to change the world of fashion; we just want to make sure the seams are straight and the customer is okay with the price. It takes time but we like the process.
