Our office is tucked away in the State Hat Building over on Gariahat Road South. We go by Srishtishree-Haat Of Rural Bengal Private Limited, though most people just know the building. It’s a busy area of Kolkata, especially in the evenings when the shoppers are out in full force. Inside, it is a bit quieter, though we always have boxes arriving from various parts of rural Bengal. We deal with all sorts of things made in the villages, so the place often smells like jute or clay or whatever else has just come off the truck. It isn't a very large space, and sometimes it gets a bit cramped when a big shipment arrives and we have to sort everything out on the floor. We aren't really about the flash and glamour of the big malls nearby. We just focus on getting the items from the rural areas into the city system. Our staff is small, and we spend a lot of time on the phone or checking lists to see what’s come in and what hasn’t. Sometimes the fans are a bit noisy, and the light isn't the best, but we get the work done. We’ve been here for a while and the routine stays pretty much the same. We handle the rural goods and make sure they get where they need to go in the city. It's just honest, everyday work for us. We drink our tea and keep track of the ledger books like we always have.
