Silky

The shop is called Silky and it is located in Kajol Appt, Chak Thakurani. We are on M G Rd, Kolkata - 700064, right near the Kalitala Housing complex. It is a quiet enough area compared to the main city, but we still stay busy. I’ve lived around here for years, so setting up the shop in this apartment building felt like the right thing to do. It is a small space, mostly just me and sometimes my cousin helping out when things get crowded. We do mostly hair stuff and some basic skin things for the ladies in the neighborhood. The name Silky was just something that sounded nice and easy to remember. We don’t spend money on big ads or anything. People see the sign when they are going home to the housing colony and they decide to stop by. The furniture inside is simple, nothing too fancy, just some sturdy chairs and a few shelves for the bottles and jars we use. Sometimes the tap in the back leaks a little, so we have to keep a bucket there, but it doesn't get in the way of the work. We like to chat with the customers about their families and what’s happening in Chak Thakurani. It feels more like a community spot than a business sometimes. We open up in the morning after I finish my chores at home and stay open until the last customer is done for the evening.
