You will find Siddhi Vinayak Sarees over on Kalakar Street at 23 B. We are on the second floor, which keeps us away from some of the noise on the ground, but not all of it. Being right opposite the ICICI Bank is helpful because everyone knows where that is. The stairs are narrow and a bit dark, but once you get up here, it’s quite bright. We have sarees stacked up to the ceiling in some parts of the room. It’s a lot of work keeping everything organized by color and type. We don’t have many employees, just a few family members and a couple of helpers. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving. Kalakar Street is a frantic place, especially during the wedding season when everyone is looking for something specific. We spend a lot of time unfolding and folding cloth, which is harder on the back than you might think. We have a small window that looks out over the street, and it’s interesting to watch the crowds below when we have a spare minute. We don't do much advertising; we just stay open and wait for people to find their way up the stairs. It’s a decent living and we’ve been doing it this way for years. We usually close up around eight and head home for dinner after a long day of folding.
