Siddhartha Apparels Ltd. is based at B-1 Hide Road. Don't let the "Ltd." part fool you into thinking we have some glass skyscraper. We are right in the middle of a gritty industrial area near the port. The road outside is usually full of heavy trucks and there’s a lot of soot and noise. Inside our building, it’s a different kind of busy. We have a lot of people working on the apparel lines. The sound of a hundred sewing machines going at once is something you never quite forget. We make everyday clothing for various clients. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we try to keep the atmosphere friendly. We have a small corner where we keep the water cooler and that’s where most of the gossip happens during breaks. The building is old and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’d rather spend that money on better needles or fabric. We don't have any big marketing gurus. We just have a lot of experience in making clothes that hold together. The days are long and the commute through the Hide Road traffic is a struggle, but we show up and do the work anyway. It’s a tough business but we are proud of the output we manage every day. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep the machines running smooth.
