Shyam Saree Museum

Finding us can be a bit tricky if you aren't used to Hanspukur Lane. We are up on the fourth floor of Laskhmi Plaza Market. It’s a lot of stairs, or you can wait for the lift if it’s working that day. Being near Lakhu Ram Bhujia Wala helps people find the turn-off. Shyam Saree Museum is where we keep all the stock. It’s more of a storage and display space than a fancy shop. There are stacks of sarees everywhere you look. We’ve been in this building for quite some time. It gets hot in the summer months up on the fourth floor, but we keep the fans going. Most of our days are spent checking inventory or talking to folks who have trekked up here to see the new patterns. We don't do much advertising; people usually hear about us from their cousins or neighbors. The market is always crowded, especially on weekends, so it gets pretty loud. We like being tucked away though. It gives us room to organize the different fabrics without too many people walking through just to look. We focus on getting the sarees in and getting them out to people who need them. It’s a lot of work keeping track of everything in this space, but we manage. We aren't trying to be anything big, just a regular spot in the market for people who know the lane.
