You can find Shreenikita Fashion & Style Industries over on Metcalf Street. We are in Room 3C on the fourth floor of number 58. It’s an old building, the kind where you really feel the history of Kolkata when you walk in. The elevator doesn't always work, so we end up taking the stairs more often than not. Our room isn't huge, but we’ve managed to fit all the tables and racks we need. There’s always a bit of a breeze if the window is open, though you mostly get the smell of the street food from below. We spend our days looking at samples and checking the stitching on the latest batches. It’s a lot of manual work, sitting under the lights and making sure everything is straight. The light in the room is okay in the morning, but by four o'clock we have to turn on all the tubes. It’s a tight-knit group here, and we know all the other people on our floor. We don't have a big marketing budget or a shiny website. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here at this address for a while and people know our face. It’s just us, the fabric, and the constant noise of the city outside our window. It’s a bit cramped, but it’s our space and we get things done without complaining too much. The days go by fast when there is enough work to keep us occupied.
