Shana Store

Shana Store is a small spot on Kalpukur Road here in Kolkata. We are sitting at 1, Shana Store, right in the 700002 zip code area. This part of the city is quite old and the streets have a lot of character. Our shop fits right in because it’s been here for quite some time. It’s nothing special to look at, just a wooden counter and rows of jars and packets. We sell the basic things that people in this neighborhood use every day. You won't find any high-end luxury goods here, just the essentials like rice, pulses, and household cleaners. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy to get around to it. Most of the people who come in are our neighbors, so we end up talking about the weather or the local news while they shop. It's a very local vibe. We open up in the morning before the sun gets too hot and we close up once the street gets quiet at night. Sometimes the shipments are late and we run out of things, but we just tell folks to come back the next day. We don't use a computer for our accounts; it's all done in a paper ledger with a pen. It works for us and has for years. We aren't doing anything fancy, just keeping the shop going.
