Roopantorer Roopmahal

In the Naopara area of Kolkata, you can find Roopantorer Roopmahal on A K Mukherjee Road. The name is a bit long, but people around here know us well. The shop is situated in a busy neighborhood where everyone seems to know everyone else. It's a typical street with houses and shops all mixed together. We have a few chairs and some big mirrors that we spent a lot of time picking out. The walls are painted a light color that has faded a bit over time. Every day we come in and arrange the combs and the different jars of creams on the ledge. There is always a bit of a breeze coming in from the door when it's kept open. The floor is made of marble and it stays cool, which is nice during the humid summer months. We have a small corner where we keep the towels and the aprons. Most of our visitors are local ladies from the Naopara area. We talk about the local news and what's happening in the market while we work. The sound of the traffic on A K Mukherjee Road is like background music for us. We have a small radio too, but it mostly just picks up one or two stations clearly. It is a simple life running a shop like this. We don't have any big goals, just to keep the shop open and do a decent job for the people who live nearby.
