We are tucked away in Mader Saheb Mat Lane, which is over in the Y-Block of the city. Kolkata is full of these little lanes, and ours is no different from the rest. It is quite narrow, so you have to be careful if you are bringing a vehicle down here to see us. We do dressmaking and other garment work. The building is an old one, with high ceilings and some wear and tear on the walls. We have our work tables set up in the main hall. Most of the time, the space is cluttered with patterns, chalk marks, and measuring tapes. It is a busy atmosphere inside. We do not have any fancy signs or a reception area. If you walk in, you will likely see someone hunched over a machine or someone else checking the hems on a pile of dresses. We have been here for a while and the neighbors are used to the constant hum of our activity. It is a very local operation. We get our supplies from the nearby markets and we try to keep things as straightforward as possible. There is no corporate ladder here, just people who know how to sew and want to do their job. We usually have the radio playing in the background, mixed with the sounds of the street outside. It is a bit chaotic at times, but that is just how a real workshop feels. We are just making dresses.
