Phoenix Boulevard

Phoenix Boulevard is over at 2/1C, Dr Rajendra Road, which many people also know as Lala Lajpat Rai Sarani. We are in the 700020 zip code area of Kolkata. This part of the city is always full of life and sometimes quite a lot of traffic. We have a small space here where we do our work every day. It’s not a large operation with managers and supervisors. It’s just us doing the day-to-day tasks ourselves. We don't have any fancy lighting or modern furniture. We just use what we have and keep it as clean as we can. The noise from the street is always there, but we’ve grown to like it. It reminds us that we are right in the middle of everything. We get a lot of office people during the day and locals in the evening. It’s a mix of different people, and we try to treat everyone the same. We don't have a big philosophy or a mission statement. We just want to make sure the food is decent and people have a place to sit for a bit. Sometimes things break or we run out of supplies, and we just deal with it as it happens. It’s a very practical way of living. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't. We just run our little shop on Dr Rajendra Road and hope for a busy day with enough people to keep us going.
