Paridhi Sarees

Burtolla Street is one of those old parts of the city where the buildings are close together and the air feels heavy with history. At No. 30A, you’ll find Paridhi Sarees. It’s a modest setup where we keep a lot of our stock on wooden shelves that have been around for a long time. The lighting inside isn't the brightest, but it works for what we do. We spend a lot of our time sitting on the floor or on low stools, unfolding pieces of cloth and showing the patterns to people who come by. There’s a specific smell of cotton and dye that hits you as soon as you walk in. We don’t use any fancy computer systems for every little thing; a lot of it is just written down in ledgers or remembered. The noise from the street outside is constant, with horns and people shouting, but we’ve learned to tune it out. Sometimes we have to move the heavy bundles of fabric to make room for new stock arriving from the manufacturers. It’s a lot of physical labor that doesn't get seen much. We just keep our heads down and do the work. The shop is more about the work we do than the way it looks. We like the familiarity of the street and the regulars who have been coming to this address for years. It feels like home to us, even on the really busy days.
