Our place is at Q-1 & 4 Akra Road, right in the Mona Market near the Metiabruz Police Station. People call us a museum, but really, we are just a big saree shop with a lot of history. The market is always loud and colorful, and we fit right in. We have stacks and stacks of sarees everywhere. Sometimes it feels like the fabric is taking over the room. We spend our days unfolding and folding them back up for everyone who comes in. It’s a lot of work on the arms, honestly. Being near the police station makes it easy for people to find us as a landmark. The building is an older one, and the stairs can be a bit steep if you aren’t used to them. We don’t have fancy air conditioning in every corner, so it gets a bit warm during the Kolkata summers. We’ve known the other shop owners in Mona Market for years, so it feels like a big family, even if we are all competing. We just focus on having enough variety so that people don't leave empty-handed. It’s not a high-tech operation; we still use paper ledgers mostly. We just enjoy the daily grind and seeing the different patterns that come through the door. Some sarees are very simple, others have so much work on them they feel heavy in your hands.
