Minu Sarees

Our shop is located at 2/1B Tollygunge Circular Road. It’s a busy stretch of road and there is always a lot of noise from the cars and buses going past. We have been here for a while, right in the heart of Tollygunge. The space inside isn’t very big, so we have to use every inch of the walls for storage. You’ll see boxes piled up in the corners and sarees draped over the rods. We mostly handle things ourselves. There is no big team or anything like that. When someone walks in, they usually have something specific in mind like a gift or something for a puja. We just pull out whatever we have and let them look. Sometimes the tea stall guy from next door brings over a few cups and we sit and chat if the shop is empty. The floor is just plain tiles and we have one old mirror that everyone uses. It’s not a place with bright spotlights or fancy decorations. It’s just where we work every day from morning until late at night. Tollygunge is a crowded place and our shop fits right in with everything else on the street. We keep the doors open to let some air in, though it brings in the dust too. We just keep a broom handy and go about our business day by day without making much of a fuss.
