Maya Stores

This shop is located on Harish Neogi Road in the Ultadanga area. It has been a part of this Kolkata neighborhood for quite some time. We keep the doors open from early morning till late evening because people around here have different schedules. It is a small store, mostly filled with things you'd need in a hurry like salt, sugar, or matches. The shelves are high and sometimes I have to use a stool to reach the top items for a customer. It's not a flashy place with bright lights. We use what we have and keep things organized as much as we can. The street outside can be quite narrow and busy with rickshaws and people walking to the station. We hear the noise all day long. My father started this and now I spend my days here. We don't do any big advertising. People just know we are here when they run out of milk or need a quick snack for their kids. It is a simple life, talking to the regulars about the weather or the local news while they wait for their change. We try to keep the prices fair. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually tell them to bring it next time. That’s how things work in a place like this. We are just a local shop for the people who live nearby. It's what we do and it works for us.
