Madura Garments

This is our workspace over in the 700 027 area of Kolkata. It is registered under Sk. Sharfuddin’s name and we have been operating out of here for a long time. It is not a showroom or a store where you browse through racks. It is more of a production spot where the actual sewing and finishing happens. The rooms are usually filled with heavy rolls of cloth and stacked cardboard boxes. We have a few workers who have been with us for many years. They know the rhythm of the place perfectly. We start work early in the morning before the city gets too loud outside. Kolkata is always noisy but once the machines start running, we don't notice much else going on. We do all sorts of garment work, mostly whatever is in demand for the current season. We don't have a glossy brochure to show people. We just show the samples of what we have already finished. Sometimes things get very hectic and the piles of clothes get pretty high on the benches. We try to stay organized but it is hard when you are busy. The space is practical and nothing more. We have decent light from the windows which helps with the fine stitching work. We don't use fancy terms for what we do. We just cut, sew, and pack things up for delivery. It is a regular job for us and we take it seriously.
