Lokhnath Saree House

We’ve been sitting here at Pulin Behari Bose Sarani for quite some time now. Our shop is right in that Paschatya Para area of Harinavi. If you live around here, you probably know the building. It isn’t anything fancy. We have stacks of sarees everywhere, from the floor right up to the ceiling almost. My uncle started this place and now I’m the one mostly sitting behind the counter. Most days it’s just about opening up the shutters and dusting the glass cases. The road outside gets pretty busy in the afternoons with people heading back from work. Sometimes they stop in just to see what’s new on the hangers or to pick up something for a family thing coming up. We don’t have those big air conditioners that make you freeze, just a few ceiling fans that hum all day long. It gets a bit cramped when three or four people come in at once because the aisles are narrow. We try to keep things in order but usually, by five in the evening, there are piles of silk and cotton all over the place. I spend a lot of time folding everything back into those plastic bags. It is just a normal local business. We know most of the faces that walk through the door because they’ve been living in Harinavi as long as we have. Nothing much changes around here and that’s how we like it.
