Khadim Khazana

Our shop is at 37 Topsia Road, right in the Tiljala area. It’s a busy road and the traffic never seems to stop during the day. Khadim Khazana is basically a place where we keep a lot of shoes and sandals. We have boxes stacked up almost to the ceiling in the back. It gets a bit messy during the monsoon when people come in with wet umbrellas. We spend a lot of time just rearranging the displays and making sure the pairs match up. It isn't a huge mall store, just a regular local shop for the people living nearby. The lights inside are those bright tubes that make everything look very clear. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of a clicking sound but we’ve gotten used to it over the months. We see a lot of the same faces coming in when their kids grow out of their school shoes or when someone needs a new pair of slippers for around the house. Tiljala is a crowded spot, so there is always noise from the street coming through the door. We don't have any fancy carpets or anything. Just the plain floor and the racks of footwear. It’s straightforward work. We open up in the morning, sweep the front bit, and wait for the first customers to wander in from the sidewalk. It gets a little humid during the afternoon so we keep the fan on high. Most of the people around here are looking for something that lasts on these rough roads. We do our best to help them find a fit that doesn't pinch.
