Amar Sohor Kolkata - Glass Bottle Craft Studio

We are down on Ground Floor 4, working with glass most of the time. Amar Sohor Kolkata - Glass Bottle Craft Studio is basically a studio where we take old bottles and turn them into something else. It’s a bit messy because of all the glass pieces and the tools we use to cut and smooth everything down. Kolkata has a way of being humid and loud, and that definitely reaches us in the studio. We have shelves full of bottles in all kinds of colors—greens, browns, and some clear ones too. People sometimes drop off their empties for us to use. It’s just a few of us here. We don't have a fancy showroom; it’s more of a workspace where the floors are usually covered in a bit of dust. You can hear the city outside the window while we work on the glass. Some of the projects take a long time and others are pretty quick. We drink a lot of chai while we sit at the benches. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We just like working with our hands and seeing what can be made out of things people usually throw away. Sometimes the kiln is running and it gets quite warm inside. We just keep at it, day by day, making bits of craft and chatting about whatever is in the news. It’s a simple life in the studio. We mostly just focus on the glass and the next bottle.
