K. K. Apparels

Our place is at 46 Jamunalal Bajaj Street. If you’ve ever been down this road, you know how crowded it gets with the wooden carts and the people pushing through the crowds. It's a tight squeeze every single day. We’ve been here at K. K. Apparels for quite some time now. The building is old, like most of them in this part of town. The stairs are narrow and steep, so moving big boxes up and down is always a bit of a struggle for us. We mostly deal with clothes and getting them ready for whoever needs them. It’s noisy outside from dawn till dusk. Sometimes we can barely hear each other talk when the truck horns start going off outside. Inside the rooms, it’s just rows of machines and piles of fabric everywhere. There isn’t much space to walk around once the shipment arrives, but we manage. We’ve got a small crew of people who have been with us for years. We know the tea seller downstairs pretty well and get a round every afternoon. The light isn't always the best in the back rooms, but we make do with what we have. We aren't trying to be anything big or fancy. It’s just a shop where the daily work gets done. Some days move faster than others. When the monsoon hits, the street outside floods a bit, which makes getting things in and out even harder. But that’s just how it is working in this part of the city. You just get used to the chaos.
