J.J.Spectrum Silk Limited

J.J.Spectrum Silk Limited is located down at 8 D.A Chowdhury Road in Budge Budge. It’s an area with a lot of history and the buildings show it. We are in the 24 Parganas South district, and it feels quite different from the middle of Kolkata. Our focus is on silk, and you can smell the fabric and the dyes when you walk through the door. The road outside is narrow, so when two cars meet, everything stops for a while. We have a lot of people working here who have been in the silk trade their whole lives. Their hands are quick and they know exactly what they’re doing. The office is tucked away in a corner of the facility, filled with ledgers and samples of different weaves. We don’t have much in the way of air conditioning, so the windows are usually wide open to catch the breeze from the river. It gets dusty, but that’s just part of being in Budge Budge. We spend our days checking the quality of the threads and making sure the looms are running right. It’s a lot of noise and a lot of color. We aren't trying to be a high-end boutique; we are a working factory. People come here to buy in bulk or to see how the silk is produced. It’s honest work and we take it one day at a time.
