Jamuna Narayan Store

Down on Raja Manindra Road in Kolkata, you will find Jamuna Narayan Store. We are located in the Belgachia neighborhood, which is a place with a lot of history and very narrow streets. Our store is a general shop where we try to keep all the essentials. We have things like cooking oil, spices, snacks, and toiletries. The shop isn't very large, so we have to use every inch of the walls for storage. Raja Manindra Road can get quite congested with rickshaws and people walking, especially in the evenings. We usually have a few people standing around the front of the shop, talking about the news or the weather. It’s a very local atmosphere. We don't have a big staff, just us family members taking turns to sit at the front. The building itself is quite old, and we’ve had to fix the roof a few times after the heavy rains. Working here means you get to know everyone's business, which is just how it is in Belgachia. We open up early and stay open until quite late because you never know when someone might need a packet of milk or some sugar. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. We just want to make sure the shelves are full for the people who live nearby. It's a steady life on a busy Kolkata street.
