Jailakshmi Sarees House

We’ve been sitting here at 133 E Rash Behari Avenue for quite a few years now. It is a busy stretch of road and we get a lot of noise from the traffic outside, but inside we just focus on the sarees. The shop isn't anything fancy with glass walls or bright neon signs. We have wooden shelves that are mostly packed to the ceiling with different types of fabric. Sometimes it’s a bit of a mess when we have several customers at once and everyone wants to see the latest colors. We spend a good part of our evening just folding things back up and putting them in their boxes. We know most of the people who walk past our door. A lot of our customers have been coming to us since they were young, and now they bring their own kids. We don't really do much in the way of advertising or internet stuff. Most people just find us because they live nearby or their neighbor told them about a specific pattern we have. It gets quite hot in the summer months, but we have the fans going. Sometimes the tea boy from the corner comes by with small glasses of chai for us and whoever is shopping. It’s a simple way to run a business, but it’s how we have always done it. We just try to keep enough stock so that anyone walking in can find something they like for a wedding or just for daily use around the house.
