The studio isn’t huge, but it is ours. We spend most of our time sketching or trying to figure out how a certain fabric will drape. It is a lot of trial and error. We are not interested in being a corporate giant. We like the studio feel. It is more personal that way. We get the dust from the road sometimes, and the noise of the traffic is always there in the background, but it keeps us energized. Being an LLP means we are a small team. We handle everything from the first drawing to the final stitch. It is not always organized. My desk is usually covered in coffee mugs and measuring tapes. We just enjoy the process of making something from scratch. People stop in and talk about what they want, and we try our best to make it happen. We are not fancy, just dedicated to the craft. Kalighat has a lot of history, and we feel like we are just one small part of the current story here. We work hard, we take our breaks, and we keep trying to make things that look good. It is a lot of work, but we would not have it any other way in this city.
