Down in Jugipara Lane, you will find us at T-194/14. That is where Gulnar Dresses Private Limited is. Kolkata-700018 is our corner of the world. It is a narrow lane, like many in this part of West Bengal, but we have made a home here. We mostly do dresses, as the name says. It has a family-run kind of feel even though we are a private limited company. The workspace is filled with the sound of sewing machines from morning until late afternoon. We have stacks of fabric in the corners and patterns pinned to the walls. It is a bit cramped, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to move stock, but we deal with it. We are not some massive factory. We are a local business. We hire people from around the neighborhood. It is important to us that the work is solid. We do not have a fancy showroom. If you come by, you will see us in our working clothes, probably covered in bits of thread. We take orders, we cut the cloth, we stitch it up, and we send it out. It is basic, honest work. There is no big secret to it. Just keeping the needles moving and hoping the electricity stays on. We like being part of the Kolkata garment scene. It is busy and loud, just like the street outside. We just try to keep up.
