You can find us at 35A Hindustan Park. It is a well-known spot because the Gariahat Fire Brigade is right nearby, so there is always a bit of activity and noise around there. The building we are in has that old Kolkata feel to it, with thick walls and high ceilings. We handle a lot of silk, so we have to be careful about the dust and the sunlight coming through the windows. The street outside is usually packed with people shopping at the stalls or walking to the main crossing. We hear the sirens from the fire station every now and then, which reminds us exactly where we are. Inside the shop, it is mostly just stacks of fabric and finished pieces folded neatly on wooden tables. We do not go for the modern, minimalist look. It is more of a traditional workspace where things are kept where they fit. We spend a lot of time talking to the weavers and checking the quality of the thread on each piece. It is a slow process sometimes, but that is just how silk is. The rainy season can be a bit of a challenge because we have to make sure the humidity does not ruin anything. We have been in this Hindustan Park location for years, and most people around here know us just by the building number. It is a steady kind of life, working with textiles in a part of the city that never stops moving.
