Fashion Designer

We are based on the ground floor at 124/E in Regent Colony, which is right by the Friends Club in Kolkata. It’s a quiet enough street most of the time, except when there’s an event at the club. The air in Kolkata is always a bit damp, so we have to be careful with the fabrics so they don’t get ruined. Our workspace is pretty simple, with large tables for cutting and a few racks for the finished outfits. Fashion Designer is the name on the board outside, though it’s faded a bit from the sun over the years. We spend hours looking at patterns and trying to match colors. It’s a lot of sitting and focused work. Sometimes the neighbors pop their heads in to see what we are making. We don’t have a fancy showroom, just the workshop where everything happens. If you come by, you’ll probably see us surrounded by measuring tapes and chalk. The ground floor location is good because we don't have to carry heavy rolls of cloth up any stairs. Being near Friends Club helps people find us, as everyone in the colony knows where that is. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It's a steady rhythm of snipping and sewing from morning until the sun goes down. We usually close up around seven unless a deadline is hovering over us.
