Hazra Road is always busy. Our building, Edcons Chambers, sits right there at 7/1A. Most days start with the sound of traffic and the tea guy coming around. We handle exports, mostly focused on leather goods and getting orders out on time. The office isn't anything fancy, just a practical space where we sit and go through invoices and shipment tracking. Some of us have been here for years, and we know the neighborhood like the back of our hands. There is a lot of paperwork involved in this kind of work. Sometimes the heavy rains in Kolkata make it hard for the trucks to get through the narrow lanes, but we manage. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity; we just do our jobs and try to stay organized. Lunch usually involves someone going out to grab rolls or sitting in the small break area. It gets loud with the fans running and people talking on phones, but that is just how it is. We keep the samples in the back, and it's always a bit of a mess with leather pieces and color swatches everywhere. It’s a decent place to work if you don’t mind the bustle of the city. People stop by for meetings and we just pull up a chair. It’s honest work, keeping track of what’s going where and making sure the quality is what it needs to be before it leaves Edcons Chambers.
