Chique Fashion

Our office is in Ganesh Chamber on Rabindra Sarani, up in room number 309. It is a busy building with a lot of different businesses, so the elevator is always full and sometimes it is faster to just take the stairs, even though they are steep. Inside our room, it is a bit of a squeeze. We have racks of clothing everywhere and rolls of fabric leaning against the corners. The sewing machines make a constant humming sound that fills the small space. We spend a lot of time cutting patterns on the central table, which is usually covered in threads and scraps of cloth. It is not exactly a glamorous fashion studio like you see on television. It is more of a workshop where we are always rushing to finish the next batch of samples. My cousin handles the phone calls while I try to keep track of the tailors. We get our tea from the stall downstairs twice a day, and that’s usually when we take a few minutes to breathe. The view from the window is just the brick wall of the next building, but we don't spend much time looking out anyway. There is always a pile of orders waiting to be sorted and labeled. It’s a lot of work to keep things moving in such a small space, but we make it happen every day and try to keep everything as organized as we possibly can before we turn off the lights at the end of the night.
