We are over here at 223 Banamalipur East in Barasat. It’s a busy spot in North 24 Parganas. Most days start with unpacking new fabrics and making sure the shelves don’t look too messy. The shop isn't huge, but we fit a lot in. People come in from around the district looking for specific materials for their clothes. Sometimes it gets crowded and we have to move stuff around just so people can walk. My desk is usually covered in scraps and measuring tapes. We’ve been here for a while now. The weather gets pretty hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fan going full blast. It’s just us doing the work, checking the quality of the cloth that comes in. If a roll of fabric has a snag, we have to deal with it right then. It's a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bolts of cloth and cutting things exactly right. We don't have a fancy showroom. It's just a practical place for people who need good material for their sewing projects. Neighbors stop by to chat sometimes even if they aren't buying anything. That's how it is in this part of Barasat. We keep the doors open and try to stay organized, even when the deliveries arrive all at once and block the entryway. It’s just a normal local business where we focus on the task at hand and try to get home on time.
