We are based on the second floor of No. 18 on Mullick Street. It’s very close to the Bada Bazar Police Station, so it’s always a very lively and somewhat chaotic area to be in. Dealing with hosiery means we have thousands of small items like socks and vests everywhere. It’s a constant battle to keep them in the right boxes. The building is one of those old ones in Kolkata with narrow stairs and lots of history. Carrying stock up to the second floor is never fun, but we’ve done it so many times it’s just part of the routine. The market outside is always screaming with noise—horns honking, people shouting, the works. Inside, we just try to focus on the orders we have to fill. It gets very humid here, especially during the monsoon season, which makes the fabric feel heavy. We don’t have a big team, just a handful of us who know where everything is kept. If you asked me where a specific size of something was, I could probably find it in the dark. We don’t spend money on fancy advertisements or shiny brochures. People in Bada Bazar know who we are and where to find us if they need hosiery. It’s just a regular local business trying to keep up with the daily rush of the city. We usually close up around 8 PM when the market starts to quiet down a little bit.
