The office for Aristo Exports [P] Ltd. is at 5, Fancy Lane, and the name of the street is much more elegant than the reality of the alley itself. Fancy Lane is one of those narrow, old paths where the buildings lean in close to each other. Our space is inside an older structure with thick walls and high ceilings that keep it surprisingly cool even in the middle of summer. To get to us, you have to walk past several other small businesses and climb a set of stairs that are a bit uneven. Inside, the rooms are filled with the kind of clutter that comes from years of exporting goods. We have boxes waiting to be taped up and stacks of customs forms on every desk. The lighting is a bit yellow, and the windows look out onto the bricks of the building next door. It is a very quiet place most of the time, except for the sound of the tape dispenser or the old typewriter we still use for certain labels. We have a small staff, and most of us have been working together for a long time. We know the routines by heart. The mail arrives late in the morning, and that is usually the busiest time for us.
