Anna Store

Anna Store sits right on Canal Row in Kolkata. We are quite close to the Belgharia Express Way, so you can often hear the traffic hum in the background while we are working. Being at number 2, we are in a spot that many people pass on their way to the bigger roads. The store itself is filled with all sorts of things, from cooking spices to cleaning supplies. It’s one of those places where things are piled a bit high because we want to make sure we have enough for everyone. The humidity in Kolkata can be tough, but we have our fans going and we just get on with it. We get a lot of locals who walk over from the nearby houses. They might just need a packet of salt or some milk, and we’re here for that. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time navigating the row, but we always figure it out. It is a small operation, mostly just family and a helper. We don't use any complicated systems, just a notebook and a good memory for what our regulars like. Life near the express way moves fast, but inside the shop, things are a bit more relaxed. We like to take a minute to talk to people about the weather or the news. It’s just a normal neighborhood shop trying to do its part in the 700028 area.
