We have our place at 276/2 Rash Behari Avenue. This part of Kolkata is always moving and we are right in the thick of it. The shop is tucked away and if you aren't looking for it, you might walk right past. Inside, it's a different story. We have fabric everywhere. It’s stacked on shelves, piled on the floor, and draped over the chairs. We do a lot of our own cutting and stitching right here. It’s not a quiet place. You can hear the trams and the cars outside all day long. We don't have a polished sales pitch. We just show people what we have and let them decide. Sometimes we are busy with a big order and the whole place feels like a beehive. Other days, it’s just one or two of us sitting by the door watching the rain. We don't have a fancy office upstairs. Our desk is just a small wooden table tucked in the back under a flickering light bulb. We’ve been here for a while and we know the other shop owners on the avenue. We help each other out when we can. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls of cloth and standing at the cutting table for hours. But it’s what we know how to do. We don't make any big promises, we just try to get the clothes made and out the door on time.
