A One Wears

Our little shop is No. 1 in the A Treasure Island A.C. Market. We've been sitting here on Madge Lane for a good while now. Being near the Globe Cinema means we get a lot of folks just wandering in after a show. It’s a busy spot, especially on weekends. We mostly sell clothes for daily wear. Nothing too fancy, just stuff that fits well and lasts. The racks are always a bit crowded because we try to fit as much as we can in the space we have. Sometimes the air conditioning in the market acts up, but we just keep the doors open. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here. It’s a bit of a community. You see the same faces every day. We don't spend money on big ads or anything like that. People just find us by walking past. We spend a lot of our time just folding shirts and chatting with customers who are looking for a deal. It’s a loud place, with people shouting and music playing from other stalls. You get used to it after a few months. If we don't have your size, we usually tell you where else to look. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in Kolkata. We just want to keep the shelves stocked and the lights on. It’s simple work, really. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and see who comes through the door today. It’s our small way of making a living.
