99 Aces Fashion Unit

Our place, 99 Aces Fashion Unit, is down on Parui Main Road in Alipore. It’s more of a workshop than a store. If you walk inside, the first thing you hear is the constant hum of the sewing machines. We have rolls of cloth stacked up against the walls and threads of every color imaginable hanging on hooks. Alipore is a busy part of town, and Parui Main Road can be quite a squeeze with all the rickshaws and delivery vans. We’ve been working from this unit for quite a few years. It’s a bit cramped, especially when we have a big order to finish, but we make it work. We aren't some high-fashion brand with a glass storefront. We are the people who actually sit and do the cutting and stitching. There are scraps of fabric all over the floor by the end of the day. We drink a lot of tea and usually have the radio playing in the background to keep the energy up. My workers have been with me for a long time, and we all know how each other works. We don't use any complicated business words. We just focus on getting the seams straight and the measurements right. It’s a sweaty, noisy, and busy place, but it’s our livelihood. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, but that’s just how it is here. We just keep at it, day after day, working hard on Parui Main Road.
