About Vivekanandha Residentialtribal School – Education in Kannur
Up here in Thondernad, the air is usually a bit cooler than down in the plains. Being in Wayanad means we deal with a lot of rain and green hills all around us. This school is where a lot of kids from the local tribal communities come to stay and learn. It’s a residential place, so it’s more like a big home than just a bunch of classrooms. We have kids here all the time, eating their meals together and sleeping in the dorms. The buildings are plain and we try to keep them tidy, but with so many children, there’s always something that needs a bit of paint or a door that squeaks. We focus on the basics. Getting them through their lessons and making sure they have enough to eat and a warm place to sleep is what we do every day. The staff here works long hours because the job doesn't really end when the sun goes down. We walk around the grounds a lot, checking on things. It’s quiet out here in Thondernadu, away from the big towns. Sometimes the power goes out when the wind gets too strong, but we just deal with it. It’s a simple life for the staff and the students. We don’t have much in the way of fancy gadgets, just the essentials needed to run a school in the hills.
