Kallayi Alp School (Kandattil)

Our school is located in Kallayi, which is in the Kannur district. It’s an ALP school, so we mostly have very young children here for their primary years. The area is quite peaceful and has that typical coastal Kerala feel to it. We have a small campus with a few classrooms where the little ones spend their day learning their first letters and numbers. It’s a very local operation. Most of the staff lives right here in the village or very close by. We don't have a lot of expensive equipment or fancy facilities. We have basic desks, some charts on the walls, and a small space for the kids to run around during their breaks. The school has been part of the Kandattil community for many years. We see families sending their children here generation after generation. It’s a quiet life, mostly governed by the school bell. When the monsoon hits Kannur, we have to make sure the roof isn't leaking and that the kids stay dry during the day. We just focus on giving the children a good start. There’s a lot of singing and storytelling in the lower classes to keep them engaged. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a small primary school where we do our best with what we have. It’s an important part of the neighborhood for the families who live nearby.
