You can find Thayampoyil Alp School on the road that goes from Mayyil to Kudukkimotta, specifically in the Kadoor area. It’s a lower primary school, so we deal with the very young ones in our neighborhood. The school is a simple structure with a roof that we have to check every year before the monsoon hits. Kannur is known for heavy rains, and our little school in Mayyil is no exception. We spend a lot of time making sure the kids stay dry and keep their notebooks clean. The classrooms are basic, with wooden desks that have seen many years of use. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles here. It's just teachers, students, and some basic supplies. The kids come from the nearby houses in Kadoor, mostly walking or being dropped off by their parents on their way to work. It’s a quiet life here. We teach them the basics of reading and writing, and we make sure they get their mid-day meals. Sometimes we run out of chalk or the gate squeaks, but we fix things as we go. It’s a place where the community feels at home. We’ve been a part of this landscape for a long time, and we just keep doing what we do every single day without any fuss. The school stays open from morning until the early afternoon, and then the quiet returns to the road.
