St.Annes Engilsh Medium School

Down here in Areekara, things move a bit slower than in the bigger cities. Our school is tucked away in Vellamunda, and most mornings you can see the mist hanging over the Wayanad hills before the sun really gets going. It’s a quiet spot, which is good for the kids. St.Annes isn't a massive institution, it’s just a place where the local children from around the village come to spend their day. The classrooms have high ceilings and the sound of the rain on the roof during the monsoon is something you just get used to. We spend a lot of time making sure the benches are straight and the chalkboards are clean for the next lesson. There’s a small playground area where they run around during the break, and it usually ends up getting quite muddy when it rains. The teachers here have been around for quite some time, and they know most of the families in the area. It’s the kind of school where you see the same faces every day. We don’t have a lot of fancy gadgets or big screens, just books and the usual school stuff. Sometimes the bus is a bit late because of the narrow roads, but nobody really complains. It’s just how life is in this part of Wayanad. We focus on the daily lessons and making sure the kids actually learn something before they head home in the afternoon. It is simple but it works for us.
