Our school is located on the Anjarakandy Kallayi Road in Kannur. It is a Lower Primary school, so we deal with the smaller kids mostly. The building is right there in Kallayi, easy to spot if you are heading down that road. It is an old structure with high ceilings. We try to keep it painted and bright for the children. There are usually drawings and charts stuck on the walls. Some of them are a bit crooked. The hallways are narrow, so it gets crowded when the bell rings. We have a small staff of teachers who live nearby. Most of them walk to work. In the mornings, you can hear the kids reciting their lessons from the street. It is a sound we are all used to. We don't have much in the way of high-tech gadgets. We use the blackboard and chalk mostly. The floors are stone and they stay cool even when it is hot outside. During the breaks, the yard is full of children playing games. We have to watch out for the occasional ball hitting a window. It is a lively place, rarely quiet. We keep the registers in a wooden cupboard in the main office. Everything is done by hand. It is just a small, local school serving the families in this part of Kannur. We take things one day at a time here.
