About SHANGRI LA TIBETIAN RESTAURANT – Tourism in Kangra
Down here in Sidhbari, things move a bit slower than in the main part of Dharamshala. Shangri La Tibetan Restaurant is our small place where we serve the kind of food we grew up with. It gets quite cold in the winters, so our soup and dumplings are always popular with the locals and the monks from nearby. The restaurant isn't very big, and the furniture is just simple wood, but it feels right for the mountains. We get a lot of travelers who are passing through to see the sights, and they usually find us because someone told them about our thukpa. We spend our mornings chopping vegetables and folding momos by hand. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we find it peaceful. Sometimes the electricity goes out because of the weather, and we have to use candles, which actually makes it look quite nice inside. We don’t have a fancy menu with hundreds of items; we just stick to what we are good at making. My family helps out in the kitchen and serving the tables. It’s a humble life here in 176213. We enjoy talking to the different people who stop by, hearing their stories while they wait for their food. It’s just a quiet spot to get a warm meal and rest your legs for a bit before moving on.
